Crossroads International Film Festival Opens February 2

Crossroads International Film Festival opens Sunday, February 2, 2014. The opening Sunday features three films that will appeal to music lovers. All screenings are at the Darkside Cinema in downtown Corvallis, Oregon. Admission is $6 per film, all proceeds support Crossroads International Programs. Crossroads International has promoted friendship and cultural sharing since 1969, current Crossroads programs include a 3-Day Homestay for incoming Oregon State University international students, a conversational English class for International women in the Corvallis area and a variety of events that promote cultural sharing throughout the year.

As It Is In Heaven 

Daniel, a successful  and driven international conductor, interrupts his career and returns to his childhood village to recover from a heart attack. Before long, he is asked to listen to the church choir and offer advice. Unable to refuse, he becomes involved with the choir. His life changes. The choir develops and grows. He makes friends and enemies--and finds love. This film is starring Michael Nyqvst  who is well known for his role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. As It Is In Heaven features beautiful choral music and scenery from the Swedish village as well as an engaging story.

Chico & Rita

Chico is a piano player with big dreams. Rita is a singer with an extraordinary voice. Music and desire unite them as they chase their dreams and each other from Havana to New York, Paris, Las Vegas and Hollywood. This animated film captures a defining moment in jazz history with music by legendary Cuban pianist and composer Bebo Valdés and other renown musicians including Monk, Parker, Porter, Gillespie, Herman, Puente and Ponzo.

English Vinglish

Indian housewife Sashi feels her family and society take her for granted and do not respect her due to her lack of English language skills. A family visit to New York becomes a transformational journey to become a self assured, confident woman. This hilarious and uplifting film captures the struggle of people world-wide with the English language and marks the comeback of Indian film star Sridevi.

Discounted Festival Passports Available

Individual admission is $6 per film. For people who want to attend all the films, groups, or two people who want to attend an entire festival day discounted Passports are available. Each passport entitles the holder to admission to six screenings. Passport use is very flexible, one person may attend one screening of all six films,  two people can share a passport and attend all three screenings in a day, or a group of six can attend one film together. Admission is available on a first come, first served basis so passport holders, especially groups should arrive 30 minutes before their chosen screening to avoid disappointment.  Passports cost $30 for six admissions.
