Crossroads International Film Festival 2014 Finale February 23
Four fabulous films help us close the eighth annual Crossroads International Film Festival on Sunday, February 23. All screenings are at the Darkside Cinema in downtown Corvallis, Oregon. Admission is $6 per film.
The final schedule includes a powerful German/Israeli documentary, a quirky Australian comedy, an intriguing Danish/Thai drama and a Spanish jazzy animated romance. The updated schedule is as follows:
11:30 AM: Hitler’s Children: discussion led by Dr Paul Kopperman to follow
1:30 PM: The Dish
4:00 PM: Teddy Bear
6:30 PM: Chico &
Rita
Hitler's Children
We made a last minute alteration to the 2014 finale in response to audience requests. Our February 16 screening of Hitler's Children was sold-out, and we had to turn people away. It turned out some of the audience had intended to attend the original screening, but were not able to because of the unusual snow that week along with the poor road conditions. We agreed to schedule another screening of Hitler's Children and the guest discussion leader Professor Paul Kopperman agreed to lead the discussion.

The Dish
The Dish is a classic quirky Australian comedy starring Sam Neill (The Piano). The film is based on a true story, but no doubt takes "artistic license". Film festival volunteers were impressed with the witty humor. The film, set in 1969, is about a remote Australian town that plays a key role in relaying live television of the first moon walk.

Teddy Bear
Teddy Bear is a Danish drama set in Denmark and Thailand. The story revolves around a shy, gentle bodybuilder Dennis and his search for true love. It has been screened at several film festivals around the world including Sundance. Crossroads International Film Festival volunteers were impressed with the touching, understated stoicism and the memorable characters.
For more information about Teddy Bear:
Chico & Rita is a Spanish-language musical animated romance. It was nominated for “Best Animated Feature Film of the Year” at the 2012 Academy Awards. Film Festival volunteers loved the stylish, but simple animation and the jazz music. This mature animated drama is set an important era of Jazz music history. It revolves around a rocky romance between singer Rita and piano player Chico as they chase their dreams and each other from Havana to New York, Paris and Las Vegas.

Hitler's Children Film Screening and Discussion Reviewed in Daily Barometer
The Oregon State University student-run newspaper The Daily Barometer published a review of the Crossroads International Film Festival screening of Hitler's Children and our post-film discussion led by Professor Paul Kopperman. We were impressed with this student-journalist's review and also with the fact he walked through slushy snow to attend our screening! We like to see that kind of dedication and wish student journalist Derek Saling all the best with the future. You can read the article online here: Snapshots of ‘Hitler’s Children’ worth seeing at Darkside’s International Film Festival
The Crossroads International Film Festival is screening Hitler's Children once more on Sunday, February 16 at 4:00 pm at the Darkside Cinema in downtown Corvallis. Admission is $6.
